10 Things Newcastle Fans Need To Know About Northampton Town

6. Newcastle's Chief Scout Graham Carr Played And Managed The Club

Newcastle's Chief Scout Graham Carr joined Northampton Town in August 1962 (his first professional club) and captained their reserve side before breaking into their first team. He played 27 times in Northampton's only season in the First Division.

After moving into management in 1977, Carr left Nuneaton Borough in 1985 and became manager of the Cobblers. He led them to the Fourth Division title in the 1986€“87 season. However, some of Carr's best players were sold and the club's philosophy changed from being a free-flowing attacking unit to a lot more defensively minded. He was sacked in May 1990 after Northampton were relegated back into the fourth division.
