10 Things Newcastle Fans Need To Know About Portland Timbers 2

9. They Claimed The MLS Western Conference Title In 2013... And Made It To The Play-Offs

The Timbers themselves have claimed one MLS Conference title and one third-place finish overall - something they achieved back in 2013. After reaching the semi-finals of the play-offs, the Timbers were eliminated from the competition by Real Salt Lake. Due to their semi-final appearance, the Timbers also achieved qualification for the 2014-15 CONCACAF Champions League - the first time they have ever made it into an international competition, although they were eliminated in the group stages. It was largely this success that convinced them to establish their reserve side. This season in the MLS the Timbers find themselves in sixth position on 32 points following nine wins, seven losses and five "ties" (draws) from their 21 fixtures - leaving them just three points off top-placed FC Dallas in the Western Conference, and in the final play-off spot for that division. The Timbers 2, meanwhile, find themselves in eighth place in the ULS Western Conference on 23 points after seven wins, nine losses and two "ties" (draws) from their 18 fixtures - leaving them two places shy of the play-offs, and 10 points behind the leaders Seattle Sounders FC 2.
