10 Things We Learned During Newcastle’s Summer Transfer Window

6. Papiss Cisse Is Still Here But He Doesn't Really Want To Be

Despite reports of a deadline day move to Galatasaray, Papiss Cisse is still at Newcastle United. This should be celebrated as without the Senegalese striker, the Magpies' transfer window business would have been tainted and they would have been left short up front. Steve McClaren now has the huge task of managing the 30-year-old whose quotes were slightly unsettling after the Arsenal fixture. Cisse, when asked if he would be back for the next Newcastle fixture appeared extremely disillusioned and answered "Seriously, I don't know" which doesn't fill you with confidence about the players mind-set. He added:

"I work very hard on the training pitch every day, but I don€™t know if I€™ve done something wrong.

€œThe decision is for the gaffer to make and I accept that, but it€™s very hard for me.

€œI don€™t know, maybe one day here, or away, I will have my chance to play football again.€

The good thing for Cisse is that Aleksandar Mitrovic is now suspended for three games and the striker will no doubt start up front against West Ham after the international break. Florian Thauvin and Ayoze Perez looked far too lightweight playing as a solo forward and it would be a shock if Cisse didn't start ahead of the more midfield-minded attackers.
