10 Things We Learned From Doncaster Vs. Sunderland
7. Defoe Should Never Be Played Out Wide
Jermain Defoe is a livewire forward capable of poaching and slamming goals home from outside of the box. Lurking in the area is Defoe's hunting ground. So when the ex-Spurs man is forced into the left back position within five minutes of kick off, it's a massive worry. It's not his fault that he was deployed on the left, but Doncaster found some joy in bursting down that flank in the first half. Fletcher offered nothing up front, and in the first half, Defoe looked sharper by far despite having to cut in every time to shoot. He will score plenty of goals as the centre of a front three, but he certainly shouldn't be sacrificed to make way for Fletcher who simply won't do anything of note this season if he stays. Defoe is a striker, play him as one.
