10 Things We Learned From Newcastle 0-1 Mönchengladbach

8. McClaren Seems To Like Anita... A Lot

Vurnon Anita has so often struggled to make an impact on Tyneside since arriving from Ajax in 2012 - yet the forthcoming campaign could finally be the one that makes the Dutch international's Magpies career. Steve McClaren seems to really like Anita - he has consistently selected him as part of a double pivot alongside Jack Colback in pre-season - and, although he has struggled at times to actually offer too much, he is very neat and tidy on the ball and does keep play ticking over. His performance against West Ham United on the final day of the 2015-16 season was sensational and, if he could repeat that form regularly, Anita could become the heartbeat of the Magpies side. McClaren seems to like him, but it may take Anita a little longer to convince others.
