10 Things We Learned From Newcastle's Open Training Session

3. Coloccini And Mbemba Might Be Able To Play Together After All

Fabricio Coloccini's future on Tyneside has already been discussed, but if the Argentine is to stay then the myth that he and Chancel Mbemba will not be able to play together may have been dispelled on Tuesday. Well possibly anyway... The two defenders were paired together at centre-back, first of all with Jamaal Lascelles at right-back and Shane Ferguson at left-back, then with Daryl Janmaat and Massadio Haidara as the full-backs during the full-pitch game at the end. Both comfortable on the ball, the pair appeared to communicate well, although very little about how they performed can be taken from a 30-minute runout together in a training game in front of supporters. It does, however, raise the distinct possibility that, in the future, the pair could be lining up beside one another at the heart of Newcastle's defence.
