5. Pick The Right Formation, Not The Right Players
Louis Van Gaal famously declared Rivaldo a Left Winger rather than his preferred Inside Forward position, and also revolutionised the style of play for Bastien Schweinsteiger, Xavi and Andres Iniesta in his time managing the players. So while fans speculate on what is needed it is likely that the Dutch maestro will be looking at what kind of football he wants to play and build a team capable of playing that way. This will be bad news to a number of United talents as some will find themselves as impact players to give options and others will find themselves in a position which is either the gaffers way or out of the way completely. Again the Wayne Rooney problem here as he will likely find himself away from his preferred position raising questions of his temperament and commitment. This is of course speculation, but the formation in the first game of the season will be a more interesting indication of the way forward than the names which fill the team sheet. Van Gaal is a progressive manager, and if he takes over dont be surprised to see him deploy three at the back with Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia as wing backs.
