10 Weirdest New Signing Reveals In Football History

8. Staged Social Media Storm For Georges-Kevin Nkoudou - Spurs

Let's get something out of the way. Georges-Kevin Nkoudou is not a bad player. He has represented France at various youth levels and was once seen as one of Europe's most promising young players.

That said, Nkoudou was not a household name in 2016. At best, he was known to footballing anoraks and those lightly addicted to Football Manager. When Tottenham signed him in the summer of that year, the most dignified thing to do, would have been a low-key reveal and an overview of his accomplishments.

The social media department had other ideas. Somehow, making a video with lot of fake Twitter accounts hyping up a player not many of us had actually heard of before, seemed "on point." Rather than create hype, it drove fans to copy and paste his name into a well-known search engine and read his free encyclopedia page in hope of some clarification.

Things didn't get much better from there. Nkoudou didn't settle in at Spurs and made a mere 27 appearances in four seasons. Loans to Burnley and Monaco proved equally frustrating for the player. However, after presumably getting a phone call prompting him to "Come to Besiktas" (more about that later), he moved to the Turkish club and breathed new life into his career.
