10 Worst Back To Back NBA Draft Picks Of The Last 10 Years
6. Marcus Morris Before Kawhi Leonard
Kawhi Leonard was in MVP conversations throughout the season and was in the top three candidates for the award. The San Antonio Spurs small forward is the heir to Tim Duncan, which are not small shoes to fill. However, Leonard has been phenomenal for the team that acquired him on the day of the 2011 NBA Draft along with two picks for point guard George Hill.
Chosen with the 15th pick by the Indiana Pacers - a team already loaded with good small forwards in Danny Granger and Paul George, Leonard wouldn't get much playing time in Indiana anyway. It's not like anyone expected the player from San Diego State to have such an impact in the NBA.
That's why with the 14th choice the Houston Rockets selected Marcus Morris. Marcus, taken one pick after his twin brother Markieff, went to a bigger school (Kansas) and played against presumably tougher competition in college, so despite his numbers being just slightly worse than Leonard's, he was considered a better prospect. Now a starter on his third team, Marcus is a solid contributor for the Pistons, but he isn't, nor will be an MVP candidate. At least not in the near future.
