10 Worst Ever Misses In Premier League History

1. Fernando Torres vs Man Utd, 2011

Edin Dzeko's appalling miss on Saturday certainly was shocking, though fails to dethrone Fernando Torres's disastrous howler against Manchester United when it comes to worst miss ever. Torres 'comes out on top' against the likes of Dzeko and Rosenthal purely because of the money involved in his transfer from Liverpool to Chelsea and what was demanded of him as a result. In 2011, the Spaniard joined the Blues for a British transfer record £50 million, but this incident, eight months after his January move, serves to highlight the fact things haven't gone well since. Chelsea were losing the game anyway at 3-1 and with just eight minutes to go the match was gone. Still, Torres had earlier scored the away side's only goal with a real beauty, and had a chance to show the world the real Fernando Torres was back to the peak of his powers with a second. But, when Ramires played him through one on one with David de Gea, he danced round his compatriot and flashed wide of an open goal as jeers rained down from the Stretford End. Torres buried his head in the turf as his cheeks flushed red and his confidence - and maybe even his very reputation - took a battering at Old Trafford. So much more was expected from the £50 million man and it was a truly astonishing miss from a player of his calibre and ability. He hasn't been the same footballer since leaving Anfield. One of the most famous misses of the Premier League era, it will take quite the shocker for Torres to be usurped in the 'worst ever miss' category.
