Back into the Mowbray era and onto a decision that quickly dampened the excitement behind Mowbray's appointment as Celtic manager in the summer of 2009. Fortuné was Mowbray's first signing, and the price of nearly £4 million paid for what seemed an average striker seemed to frighten Celtic fans a little bit. One of the rules when you buy strikers for Celtic - if you're going to spend big money on a striker, he better be at least a 20 goals-a-season man. If not, he's not even worth a penny to us. Henrik Larsson cost Celtic £600,000, and he bagged us over 250 goals in 6 seasons (7 if you include the year he broke his leg), so as a manager you should feel a lot of pressure to pull off the perfect striker signing. Fortuné has never been a striker that can do that, for any team in any league, and he played for a lot of clubs before joining Celtic, including West Brom, Lille, Nancy and Stade Brest. He is what you would probably call a 10 goal-per-season. Not worth £4 million, certainly not to us. The sentiment was then proven as that season, to no surprise, Fortuné only managed 10 goals in 32 appearances for Celtic, the signing has since been highlighted as the essence of Mowbray's incompetency and failure that season.
As a recent university graduate and a huge supporter of Celtic FC, what better way to use my inevitable free time to write about my favourite football team? I'll cover most things that the supporters are talking about at the moment, which includes things that directly and indirectly involve the club. At times I may also stray into matters concerning English clubs.
