10 Worst January Premier League Signings Of The Last Decade

1. Fernando Torres - Chelsea

We mentioned the Spaniard in the previous slide about Andy Carroll and he makes it to number one on this list.

At £50m, Torres' move to Chelsea has to go down as one of the biggest disappointments in Premier League transfer history. Torres had been electric for Liverpool in the main since moving from Atletico Madrid. But, the Reds must have seen something in Torres to indicate his pending decline and they duly cashed in.

His time with Chelsea was nothing short of a nightmare. He went two months without a goal for the club following his signing and scored just once in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

Torres did go on to have some moments of success with the Blues, however. A winning goal at Barcelona was enough to send Gary Neville into commentary meltdown and he did get his hands on the Champions League trophy.

But in terms of value for money and overall contribution, Torres can look back on his spell with Chelsea as a huge failure.
