10 Worst January Premier League Signings Of The Last Decade

9. Giannelli Imbula - Stoke City

If you're a Stoke City fan, when you see your club spend near enough £20m on a player, you expect a lot more than what Giannelli Imbula brought to the table.

The Potters splashed out on Imbula back in 2016 as Mark Hughes looked to oversee a change in the perception people had of Stoke City. Hughes was attempting to get away from the adage that Stoke were nothing but a long ball team. Adding someone from Porto for such a big fee, then, seemed to be a good move.

However, Imbula proved incapable of transferring the form he'd shown over in Portugal to the Premier League. He did play regularly at first and looked like fulfilling some of his potential, but second season syndrome well and truly kicked in for Imbula and he was soon dropped by Hughes.

Remarkably, with Stoke now struggling in the Championship, Imbula is still part of the squad. He is away from the club, though, currently plying his trade on loan over in Italy with minnows Lecce.
