Age at first goal: 16 years, 8 months, 27 days Birmingham-born James Vaughan made his Premier League bow for Everton aged just 16 and he's still the record holder for youngest Premier League goalscorer. After scoring goals regularly for Everton's youth sides he broke into the first team in the 2004/05 season and turned heads on his debut. His chance to impress came as a 73rd minute substitute with Everton cruising to a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Goodison Park. Vaughan added the fourth with a classic poacher's effort, sliding in to divert Kevin Kilbane's cross into the back of the net. With that goal he became not just the youngest debutant to score, but the youngest ever scorer in the Premier League, eclipsing the record previously held by James Milner. What happened next? Vaughan was being heralded as "the next Wayne Rooney" as soon as the ball hit the net (even though Rooney was only just out his teens at the time) but he never lived up to the tag. Frequent injuries limited him to just handful of appearances over 7 seasons at Goodison, and he only found the net 8 more times. After failing to impress in loan spells at Derby County, Leicester and Crystal Palace, Everton cut their losses and sold Vaughan to Norwich City but injuries again limited him and he made just five appearances for the Canaries. He finally found his feet at Huddersfield Town in the Championship, seemingly putting his injury troubles behind him and getting into double figures for goals in his first two seasons. That said, he has lost his place in the team this season and is currently on loan at his home town club Birmingham City. He is expected to join them permanently when his Huddersfield contract expires in the summer. Vaughan has made a decent career for himself just below the top level, but he didn't go on to become "the next Rooney".
