Mark Noble seems to like a fine wine, in that he is ageing remarkably well. Admittedly, the West Ham stalwart is just 29 years of age, but least season was arguably his finest in a claret and blue shirt and was extremely unlucky not to book a plane ticket for the Euros. While Roy Hodgson would probably have made room for a one-legged Jack Wilshere at Noble’s expense, the appointment of Sam Allardyce as England boss will have changed matters slightly.

The 61-year-old has long since championed his former captain for international recognition and for once, Noble might feel that he is actually in with a shot of representing his country at an upcoming tournament. His tally of seven goals last season, admittedly most of them being spot-kicks, was his highest-scoring season since the promotion-winning campaign of 11/12 and his highest-ever in the top-flight.

With 133 points, Noble was the 18th highest-scoring midfielder in the whole game - not bad for a midfielder whose game primarily involves sitting deep and playing the short pass. Philippe Coutinho, Kevin De Bruyne, Yaya Toure and Michail Antonio were just some of the names Noble finished higher than - it would be silly not to include him again.
