11 Classic FIFA World Cup Matches

9. Brazil Vs. Sweden (1958, World Cup Final)

The 1958 FIFA World Cup final in Stockholm was a historic first World Cup triumph for Brazil. The match had a record number of goals for a World Cup final, and was also a game in which the boy wonder Pele stole the show.

Sweden made a good start to the match when Nils Liedholm put his team one goal up within the first five minutes. However, they did not hold the lead for long as Vava equalized for Brazil about five minutes later. He then put his team 2-1 ahead after 32 minutes with a second goal from close range.

Vava had turned the game around, but it was Pele who then took center stage. The prodigy scored a magnificent third goal when he chipped the ball over one of Sweden's defenders and fired the into the back of the net. Mário Zagallo put the outcome of the match beyond doubt when he scored Brazil's fourth, but Sweden did manage a second with 10 minutes remaining. The match ended with Pele heading in Brazil's fifth in stoppage time to make the final score 5-2.
