On paper, you'd think Owen Hargreaves had a stellar career. The England international has won four Bundesliga titles, two Champions Leagues and a Premier League. He was even voted England footballer of the year in 2006.

Until Hargreaves made his big-money move to Manchester United in 2007, his career was enviable. It was after making the move from Bayern Munich that the 34 year-old began to have serious issues with his knee. Sadly, it was recurring knee problems which limited Hargreaves to just five first team appearances for the reds in his final three seasons.

Though he briefly signed with rivals Manchester City following his release in 2011, the central midfielder made only four appearances in the 2011/12 season, before leaving the club upon his contract expiring. He hasn't played a game of professional football since.

Though Hargreaves played for England an impressive 42 times - his last cap being in 2008 - he could've easily earned more than 60 caps had he not suffered a string of unfortunate knee injuries.
