11 MORE Players Newcastle Have ALREADY Missed Out On This Summer
7. Kieran Trippier
It would have been interesting to see how Steve McClaren would have dealt with the arrival of Burnley's right back considering the undoubted success Daryl Janmaat turned out to be last term. However, those who were worrying that the potential arrival of the former England U21 man would see the end of the Dutch international's stay on Tyneside can rest easy, for the moment at least, as the 24-year-old completed a £3.5 million move to Tottenham Hotspur. The former Manchester City man was recognised as one of the best right backs outside the Premier League for the couple of seasons preceding last, and was even linked with a move to Newcastle in the summer of 2012. However, he stayed put at Turf Moor and under the guidance of Sean Dyche proved he was up to task at the highest level as he played in every game of The Clarets' season in the top flight. Maybe Tripper wouldn't have ousted Janmaat from the Newcastle staring XI, but his versatility would have seen him make the much-maligned left back birth his own. He is simply a far superior footballer compared to both Massadio Haidara and Paul Dummett.
