11 Newcastle Players Who Fell Out With Managers

3. Andy Cole Vs Kevin Keegan

Kevin Keegan has always been well-publicised in his adoration of Andy Cole and his praise of what the bargain superstar did for Newcastle United, but the relationship between the two wasn't always smooth. In October 1993, the team were struggling for form, with losses against Southampton in the league and Wimbledon in the League Cup, and during a training session, Cole wasn't his usual energetic self:
"We were having a training session in London and I felt a bit jaded that day. €œDon€™t fancy it, today, Coley?€ Keegan said. €œI€™m just a bit tired boss,€ I said. €œWell if you don€™t fancy it, you can eff off,€ he said. €œSo, I effed off. I just got a taxi and left, and spent a few days with my girlfriend (now his wife), who was living in London at the time.€
It's ironic to see a player walking out, and not Keegan himself, considering his fondness for grandstanding gestures, but the fractures didn't last.
