The Frenchman was always a little volatile at Newcastle: he openly admitted wanting out a couple of times, and claimed Arsenal and Tottenham were definitely interested in him - before signing for Wigan. The final straw of his career at Newcastle came when Joe Kinnear rolled up into Newcastle for his first ill-advised stint, and with typical grace and class mispronounced the midfielder's name as Insomnia. Understandably N'Zogbia was upset, taking it as a personal slight and refused point blank to play for Kinnear again, who responded by claiming the player was using it as an excuse to engineer a move. N'Zogbia's agent confirmed how upset he was:
"When you respect somebody you don't make this sort of mistake in a public situation. It is clear what he meant. If he meant it as a joke, it is a good joke for Kinnear but to Charles, it is not.
