Having been a midfielder of rare talent himself in his playing days, you would have thought Glenn Hoddle would have been able to spot a decent midfielder. Hopes were high for Milenko Acimovic, bought from Red Star Belgrade. On the surface, this appeared to be a canny signing on Hoddles part. Acimovic had performed admirably for Slovenia at both Euro 2000 and the World Cup in 2002. The English game just wasnt for him though, as he struggled with the pace of matches and the lack of space in which to operate. A mere 3 starts and 14 substitute appearances in two seasons tell you all you need to know about his lack of impact at White Hart Lane before he was unceremoniously shipped off to Lille in France. Acimovic's failure at Spurs is seen as symptomatic of Hoddle's failure - plenty of talent, but the wrong person at the wrong club.
