In the late 1990s, the Dynamo Kyiv team of Valeriy Lobanovsky were feared across Europe. They were Champions League semi-finalists in 1999, losing to Bayern Munich, and they were spearheaded by the fearsome duo of Andrei Shevchenko and Serhiy Rebrov. Whilst Dynamo were a club with a fine history, they were never going to keep hold of the pair for long. Shevchenko went to Milan in the summer of 1999 and Rebrov left for Tottenham for a fee of £11 million a year later. While Sheva flourished in Serie A, Rebrov managed just 9 goals in his debut season at Spurs. Used to a more tactically disciplined and technical style, Rebrov just could not adapt to life in the Premier League. He was slowly frozen out over the next two seasons by Glenn Hoddle, being loaned out to Fenerbahce twice and eventually moving across London to West Ham, where he was equally underwhelming. A player with Rebrov's reputation before joining Spurs was always worth a punt; Spurs just wish it wasn't them that took the plunge.
