11 Most Ridiculous Excuses For Losing Football Matches

10. The Balls Were Too Bouncy/Too Round

Ignoring his side's illustrious history of being knocked out of the FA Cup by minnows and so-called inferior clubs that to this day is still celebrated every time the FA Cup third round comes round, thanks to footage of THAT Hereford goal, Kenny Dalglish blamed another upset, this time a draw at Stevenage in 1998 on the bounciness of the balls. After seeing his side (who would ultimately triumph in the replay) humiliated, a particularly flustered Kenny claimed the balls were too bouncy, after presumably complaining that the pitch was too grassy and the goals too netty. And Kenny's complaints aren't the only time failure has been blamed on balls either - the 2010 World Cup featured a new Jabulini ball, which was designed by "boffins" to be the most perfectly round ball ever used, and which, inevitably turned out to be a failure, and a particular cause for complaint from players and managers. David James, who had never dropped a ball in his life before the emergence of the Jabulini said it was horrible, Italy€™s Giampaolo Pazzini called it a disaster for strikers and Denmark coach Morten Olsen called it impossible. All three must have been right since England were humiliated by Germany in the knock-out stages, while Denmark and Italy both failed to make it out of the groups. All because of the ball, and not their hopeless players though, you understand.
