12 Newcastle Successes (And 12 Failures) Scouted By Graham Carr
10. Sylvain Marveaux
Signed: 2011 (from Rennse) Transfer Fee: £150,000 Position: Playmaker/Midfielder Newcastle United Appearances: 57 (2011-) Newcastle United Goals: 2 Current Club: Newcastle United (but he spent 2014-15 on loan at Guingamp) When Newcastle held off competition from Liverpool to sign Sylvain Marveaux for just £150,000 from Rennes back in the summer of 2011, the club appeared convinced that they had pulled off a major coup. The French midfielder - the younger brother of Montpellier's Joris Marveaux - is a skilful player who loves to fill in the playmaker role, yet it has just not worked out for him on Tyneside. Often played out of position or harshly dropped from the side during his four years at Newcastle, Marveaux hasn't been given a fair crack of the whip to really prove his worth to the Magpies. Quietly impressive on loan at Guingamp in 2014-15, Marveaux is unlikely to have a future at Newcastle with just a year left on his contract and this must go down as a Carr failure. Signing Rating: 5
