3. The Experts Say So

All but one of the fighters both Mayweather and Pacquiao have faced feel the American will come out on top.

That is saying a lot.

Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, and Shane Mosley were all picked apart by Mayweather before they met Pacquiao. While Manny’s wins over these three were much more dramatic than Mayweather’s (he forced De La Hoya to quit on his stool, knocked out Hatton in the 2nd round, and dominated Shane Mosley).

Mayweather knocked out Hatton to hand him his first loss, went up in weight to beat Mosley, and did the same to beat De La Hoya.

They all favor Mayweather.

Their predictions hold a lot more weight than any journalist or boxing fan. Juan Manuel Marquez, Pacquiao’s greatest rival is choosing Mayweather. Marquez took on Floyd in 2009 and was eviscerated over 12 lopsided rounds. This was after Mayweather ended a 22-month hiatus as well.

The lone common opponent to not make a prediction was Miguel Cotto, who was stopped by Pacquiao in 2009 and lost a unanimous decision to Mayweather in 2012.

Part of him not making a prediction might be the fact that he and Pacquiao share a trainer in Freddie Roach. In an attempt to not insult his trainer, he may have thought it better not to go with his gut and predict a Mayweather victory.
