3. Rayo Vallecano Are An Attractive, Attacking Side... And That Is Jemez's Philosophy
"Playing football is always the shortest road to victory" - that is a quote that Jemez made when explaining his footballing ideals. This is a man who loves attractive, attacking football - and that's exactly how his Rayo Vallecano side play. Another quote attributed to Jemez is: "The only satisfaction to be derived from losing is knowing that you did all you could to win." Jemez once stated that he believes in defending from the front, and that "the striker (should) be the first defender and the keeper (should) be the first attacker". That is certainly not a philosophy that has been seen at St James' Park in a very long time. This is a man who believes in attacking football and who likes his sides to play on the front foot. If he arrived on Tyneside, refreshing and attractive football would surely follow - and maybe going to the match on a Saturday would no longer be a chore, but a potentially-exciting pleasure.
