14 Things Newcastle Fans Need To Know About Ian Cathro

14. Cathro Was Made Head Of Dundee United's Youth Academy... At The Age Of Just 22

He's still just 28 now but Cathro has already been working as a top-level professional coach for more than six years. At the age of just 22 Cathro was approached by Dundee United to become the head of their youth academy, as well as working his way through the Scottish Football Association's local youth programme simultaneously. Then-Tangerines boss Craig Levein was extremely impressed with Cathro's abilities as a coach and was keen to use some of his ideas in the first-team set-up. What's more, Levein was also astounded by the rapid improvement in the standard of the youth players - in terms of their conditioning, game understanding and, most particularly, their technical ability - brought about by this young coach from Tayside.
