14 Things Newcastle Fans Need To Know About Ian Cathro

13. During His Teens He Established His Own Coaching Clinic... And 12 Of His 50 Students Are Now Professionals

"How did Cathro get the Dundee United gig in the first place?" you may ask. Well, during his formative teenage years Cathro spotted a business opportunity - he could coach young and aspiring footballers, with a particular emphasis on improving their technical abilities. His Dundee soccer school was named "Master the Ball, Master the Game" and Cathro himself made sure to emphasise to the youngsters the importance of controlling the game and being able to distribute possession from tight spaces. In fact so successful was his coaching school that, of the 50 students Cathro took under his wing, 12 of them have gone on to become professionals. That is a 20% hit rate - a phenomenal record.
