It's not all about hometown heroes - journeymen players often go back to previous clubs too.

Don Hutchison had already played for Hartlepool United and Liverpool before Harry Redknapp signed him to West Ham in August 1994. He went on to make 35 appearances and score 11 goals before moving on to Sheffield United, though his first spell with the Hammers was marred by a poor disciplinary record and the distraction of his partying ways.

Hutchison would go on to play well for the Blades under Howard Kendall, so well in fact that when the manager left for Everton in 1998 he made the midfielder one of his signings. This lifted him back to an established Premier League side. Boosted, he went from strength to strength and fans were unhappy when he was sold to Sunderland in 2000 but only a year later, he would hear London calling once again.

West Ham broke their club transfer record to bring him back to the Boleyn Ground in August 2001. He played 63 more times for the team and scored 5 goals but his second spell was unfortunately marred with injuries. in 2005 he was gone, leaving a patchy, stop-start legacy at the only team he played for twice in his career.

Unfortunately for the promising Scottish international, this was par for the course in a career that often showed great promise but was hampered by bad luck and false starts.
