16 Newcastle Players You Won't Believe Are Seasoned Internationals

4. Lamine Diatta - 71 Senegal Caps

Newcastle United: 2008 Position: Defender Nationality: Senegalese Premier League Appearances: 2 Premier League Goals: 0 International Caps (Goals): 71 (4) Lamine Diatta enjoyed a successful week-long trial at Newcastle in March 2008 - before Kevin Keegan snapped up the defender who had bought out his own Besiktas contract. Making his debut off the bench against Reading in the Premier League, he made just one further appearance before his contract expired and he was released. Given little-to-no-time in which to prove himself on Tyneside, Diatta played for the likes of Lyon, Marseille and Saint-Etienne during his prime - and was capped an incredible 71 times by Senegal, even skippering his nation. Part of the side who knocked holders France out of the 2002 World Cup, Diatta certainly enjoyed a distinguished international career.
