16 Newcastle Players You Won't Believe Are Seasoned Internationals

5. Oguchi Onyewu - 69 US Caps

Newcastle United: 2007 (loan) Position: Centre-Back Nationality: American Premier League Appearances: 11 Premier League Goals: 0 International Caps (Goals): 69 (6) "The Gouch" as he is affectionately known arrived on Tyneside on a six-month loan deal from Standard Liege in 2007 and performed reasonably well during his 11 Premier League appearances for the Magpies. Although he didn't look like he was ever going to play for one of Europe's big boys, he was an adept-enough centre-back. Yet the 6ft 4in defender - who has played for the likes of Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic since leaving Newcastle - has been capped 69 times to date by the United States, scoring six times. In fact, Onyewu even played for the US in both the 2006 and 2010 World Cups - not a bad achievement, really.
