McClaren will not come into the Newcastle job completely blind - he already knows a lot about Cheick Tiote and Steven Taylor, having coached the pair before. Tiote was part of McClaren's Eredivisie-winning side at FC Twente and starred in midfield for the Englishman during the 2009-10 season before moving to Newcastle for £3.5 million.
