16 Things Newcastle Fans Need To Know About Steve McClaren
9. His Favourite Formation Is 4-3-3... Although He Is Known To Switch It Up
Although McClaren has never stuck to a definitive formation throughout his coaching career, instead deciding the best system in which to fit his players at any given time, his preference at Derby County was to play 4-3-3. Towards the end of the 2014-15 campaign, Chris Martin was the spearhead of the Rams attack, with the likes of Tom Ince and Johnny Russell out wide, and Will Hughes sitting in midfield dictating play. That is a system he could well look to continue at Newcastle - but he will be willing to switch it up depending on occasion, opposition, personnel and even throughout a match.
