18 Biggest Newcastle United Villains

18. Carl Cort

Perhaps a slightly harsh addition to this list, but Carl Cort didn't exactly endear himself to the Newcastle United fans on the pitch - and his wife did him no favours off it either... Signed from Wimbledon by Sir Bobby Robson in 2000 for £7million the former England Under-21 international was seen as a tall, powerful figure up front with an eye for goal - but persistent hamstring, ankle and knee injuries restricted Cort to just 22 Premier League appearances on Tyneside over three-and-a-half years. The fact Cort was a total waste of money on the pitch did annoy and frustrate Toon supporters but that is not what gets him on to the list - it was his wife Melissa who gained him that honour. During the Christmas rush at Tesco at Kingston Park, a northern suburb of Newcastle, in 2001 the Corts were doing some festive shopping when they jumped to the front of a huge queue at the checkouts. After some customers complained, Melissa Cort turned round and said: "Don't you know who we are?" The checkout assistant pressed his emergency panic button and the pair were escorted off the premises. The fact Cort was out injured at the time and the couple were still acting like prima donnas ensures that the striker is well and truly a Newcastle United villain.
