20 Best FIFA World Cup Goals Ever

2. Dennis Bergkamp - Netherlands Vs Argentina (1998)

With 171 goals, France 98 saw the ball hit the back of the net more times than any other World Cup. It would take something really special to stand out as the best of that bunch. And here it is.

Having survived Michael Owen's incredible goal in the last 16, only something even more impressive could polish Argentina off in the quarter finals. Enter Dennis Bergkamp.

With the quarter final between the Netherlands and Argentina tied at 1-1 it looked certain to go into extra time until an incredible goal in the final minute completely changed everything.

In reality, this is not just one of the finest World Cup goals of all time, but also one of the great assists. Frank De Boer was in the left back position when he managed to pick Bergkamp out with a single looping aerial cross-field pass that perfectly found the forward's feet from 60 yards away.

Bergkamp still had a lot to do, though. With the ball dropping high and fast over his head, he controlled it impeccably with an outstretched leg, knocked it between defender Roberto Ayala's legs, before skilfully chipping it over the head of goalkeeper Carlos Roa from a tight angle, all in one seemingly perfectly smooth move.

Arsenal fans would become used to that effortless brilliance from Bergkamp over the years, but this was his finest moment and it secured the Dutch a semi final match with Brazil.
