20 Best FIFA World Cup Goals Ever

15. Darío Rodríguez - Uruguay Vs Denmark (2002)

Two-time World Champions Uruguay left South Korea without winning a single game at the 2002 World Cup.

In a tournament that was short on memorable moments for Uruguay fans they could at least savour the quality of the equaliser in their opener against Denmark (a game that Uruguay would ultimately lose 2-1).

Denmark had taken the lead on the stroke of half time and Uruguay emerged from the break determined to even the odds.

A minute into the second half a wasteful Uruguay corner was only cleared by the Danish defence as far as midfielder Pablo García. From there it felt almost like a training exercise of trying to prevent the ball from touching the ground with García essentially engaging in a spot of keepy-uppy before knocking it wide to left back Darío Rodríguez. Without letting the ball drop, Rodríguez struck a swerving volley from outside the box.

The Times voted it in their top 5 World Cup goals of all time, but it was all downhill for Uruguay for the rest of the tournament.
