20 English Players Newcastle Should Sign This Summer
8. Curtis Davies
Age: 30 Position: Centre-Back Current Club: Hull City (2013-) Previous Clubs: Luton Town (2003-05), West Bromwich Albion (2005-08), Aston Villa (loan, 2007-08), Aston Villa (2008-11), Leicester City (loan, 2010-11), Birmingham City (2011-13) Estimated Market Value: £3 million League Appearances (Goals) 2014-15: 21 (0) England Under-21 Caps (Goals): 3 (0) Curtis Davies is certainly not the most-talented or exciting name on the list, but Newcastle need experience at centre-back and it isn't going to come much cheaper than the £3 million Hull City will likely accept for their captain. The former England Under-21 international has more than 380 league appearances to his name, as well as 24 goals, and as a short-term option he could help nurture some younger players in the next couple of years. He may have been relegated with both Birmingham City and the Tigers in recent seasons, but the 6ft 2in centre-back is a reasonable Premier League defender and, at 30, he still has a few years left at the top. Not an inspired potential signing by any means, although Davies could represent decent value for money.
