20 English Players Newcastle Should Sign This Summer

6. Jesse Lingard

Age: 22 Position: Attacking-Midfielder Current Club: Manchester United (2012-) Previous Clubs: Leicester City (loan, 2012-13), Birmingham City (loan, 2013-14), Brighton & Hove Albion (loan, 2014), Derby County (loan, 2015) Estimated Market Value: £2.5 million (likely to be available on loan) League Appearances (Goals) 2014-15: 14 (2) England Under-21 Caps (Goals): 7 (1)
Another Manchester United youth product who could make the trip across the Pennines this summer, Jesse Lingard has been touted by onlookers for several years as a future England international midfielder. Capped seven times by the Under-21s to date, Lingard has failed to break into the Manchester United first team - instead spending time on loan at Leicester City, Birmingham City, Brighton & Hove Albion, and latterly Derby County. Steve McClaren used Lingard 12 times during the latter half of the 2014-15 season at the Rams, having signed him on loan on deadline day in February, and the midfielder was a key component of the Derby side. An attacking-midfielder with an eye for goal, Lingard has yet to fully develop as hoped - but if he could be snapped up for £2.5 million or less, or on loan, then he could prove a shrewd acquisition for Newcastle.
