After Newcastle ended its brief association with Asics in the early 90s, they began over a decade in partnership with Adidas and, in that time, the German sportswear giants threw together a lot of one-offs for the club. Rarely sighted during its short-lived reign, the purple and gold seahorse number was the team's alternative goalkeeper jersey in a season where the first choice was a luminous green and navy effort - ergo, it clashed with nothing. Adorned by such goalkeeping heavyweights as Lionel Perez, albeit in a friendly, this majestic reflection of the club crest was criminally underused. Incorporating elements of the badge into the shirt has been attempted since, in subtle detailing on the collars and neckline, but this remains the only kit where it forms the basis of the design.
