Sunderland's 1-0 win over Liverpool in October 2009 will go down in Premier League history as the first time a goal was scored thanks to a foreign object. A Liverpool fan's beach ball was thrown onto the field of play and found itself in the way of a first half Darren Bent strike. Reds goalkeeper Pepe Reina found himself completely outfoxed by the ensuing deflection, and the goal was allowed to stand (although the beach ball sadly went wide).
