20 Players Rangers Must Regret Signing

18. Cammy Bell

Truth be told, Cammy Bell is the kind of player that lets Rangers fans know exactly where their club is at in the modern era. Unfortunately, the Scottish goalkeeper is indicative of the lack of quality the blues have been able to attract through the gates at Ibrox, because there's no way the stopper would be a stick-on Gers number one in seasons gone by. During the Scottish Premiership Playoff Final against Motherwell, Bell showed exactly his quality, or lack of it, when he awkwardly fumbled a routine cross-come-shot into the net, missing a punch and collapsing backwards across the line. Would the likes of Andy Goram have done that? Even Stefan Klos surely wouldn't have made such an unforgivable error. It's been confusing to watch some Rangers fans claim that Bell is anything other than an average goalkeeper. He has his qualities, certainly, but he's far from the first choice man between the sticks that strong Rangers teams of the past have had. Average doesn't equate into success, unfortunately, and Cammy Bell has been distinctly average. Mistakes such as those against Motherwell are exactly why Rangers have struggled against even mediocre opposition over the past few years.
