Andy Webster's time under contract can be seen as a colossal waste of time. Fans were understandably enthused when the Scotsman put pen to paper on a deal in 2007, initially coming on loan from Wigan Athletic. During his time in England, Webster was able to wangle himself free of his current deal with Heart Of Midlothian, signing on at Ibrox on a permanent deal in 2008, but that's where the excitement would end. A leader of men with Hearts in Edinburgh, the defender had been a crucial part of the capital club reaching the UEFA Champions League for the very first time in 2005. Of course, they would exit the competition during the qualification stages, but it was still heralded as a good team, one of the best Hearts had ever had, and Andy Webster was a big part of it. For Rangers, the full-back seemed to do little other than occasionally appear in training pictures, or talk to the press. Injuries badly derailed his Ibrox career, but that was of little consequence to the Rangers support, who had seen their team sign a lame duck of a player, one who would only make a few short appearances in the first team over a 4-year spell. Worse yet, the Gers loaned him to Dundee United in 2009, where he'd become captain and play close to 30 games, all the while Rangers paid the majority of his wages.
