You wouldn’t think it listening to Tottenham’s views on the former England centre-half now, but there was a time when Sol Campbell was considered a God at White Hart Lane.

The commanding defender had skippered Spurs to a League Cup victory and was regarded as one of the best players in the Premier League. However, his status of being a Tottenham icon was dashed in an instant with one of the most famous press conferences the world of sport has ever seen.

English football was rocked when Campbell emerged at what was presumed to be the unveiling of goalkeeper Richard Wright. The England defender had not only crossed the divide, he’d done so on a free transfer. Spurs were livid and still hate their former captain to this day.

Campbell would be met with taunts of Judas during every trip to White Hart Lane. After two league titles, two FA Cups, and a Champions League final goal, there’s no question as to whether he made the right decision.
