2. Roberto Mancini
Like Fergie knocking Liverpool off their perch, Mancini is the manger that removed the Stretford end banner displaying Man Citys failure to win a trophy. Winning the FA cup, much like Mourinhos League Cup win during his Chelsea rule, was just the first step for the oil rich Man City owners in their attempt to dominate one of Europes most competitive leagues. Mancini was the man tasked in the departure of Mark Hughes, to steer a team of Galacticos for the modern era to the Premier League crown. During the 2011-12 season Man City, while having never tasted success in the Premier League, started as favourites. Mancini, much like Mourinho at Real Madrid, was expected turn the clubs fortunes around by beating their fiercest rivals in the league. While both men succeeded in their task to win the league Mancini has failed to deliver in the Champions League with two failed attempts to get out of the group stage under his belt. In this article though it is not Mourinhos inclusion to the list that is under inspection, which he rightfully deserves, it is Mancini vs Guardiola. Much like when Mourinho won the Premier League, or when Guardiola won La Liga they were hailed the masterminds. Mancini winning the Premier League though is viewed as less than what Guardiola achieved in 2011-12. While Guardiola played beautiful football he did not win the league or the Champions League, so you have to ask how highly do the players, coaches and media, who vote for Ballon Dor, rate the World Club Championship? If they consider this, two round knock out for European clubs to be harder than the Premier League then serious questions have to be asked about the credibility of this award.
