1. Roberto Di Matteo
The Italian took over at a disjointed, post AVB, Chelsea team who were staring down the barrel of a trophy-less season. Di Matteo galvanised the team and like the Milan Team of 2007 showed the importance experience can play when tackling the worlds premium cup competition. Di Matteo brought together an ageing Chelsea team and won tactically against Pep Guardiolas Barcelona in the Champions League on his way to winning the competition in dramatic fashion in Munich. With his sacking this term Di Matteo was shown little or no respect for winning both in Europe and domestically by Abramovich. Equally shocking is his omission from the Ballon Dor list while Guardiola makes it. Again a comparison of the trophy cabinets of the opposing men over the past five years leaves Di Matteo trailing in Guardiolas dust but during 2011-12 season Di Matteos achievements as a coach far outweigh that of the Spaniard. The Ballon Dor list of coaches has two men that deserve to be considered for coach of the year. Sadly Pep Guardiolas inclusion on the list gives a clear indication of the motives driving the award. Ballon Dor looks strikingly influenced by what the media say as appose to what a manger has actually achieved. With Real Madrid and Barcelona, football is all encompassing, losing is not an option and they are two of the most pressurised jobs in world football. To let anything other than the football on the pitch stop managers from Europes other great leagues be recognised for their contribution to football is a disgrace. Guardiolas introduction to the list is another indication that you are only considered a great coach if the eyes of the world watch your derby and your team features either Messi or Ronaldo in its line-up. So Guys there it is, do you think I missed any great coaches of 2011-12 season? Or do you think Guardiola's inclusion was justified? Let me know in the comments.
