In the build up, McGregor promised fans that he would take Brandao's head off in the very first round, and he delivered his promise to the Irish faithful. His win capped of Straight Blast Gym going undefeated for the night, finishing 4-0. In the post fight press conference McGregor highlighted his gratitude to SBG coach John Kavanagh. Despite his emphatic win, UFC President Dana White refused to get into speculation over the Notorious one's next opponent. However, prior to the fight, Dustin Poirier laid down the challenge to McGregor on twitter. Both men seem agreed on fighting at UFC 178 in Las Vegas which is headlined by the Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson rematch. The fight itself is very interesting and has future number one contender implications. After McGregor's win on Saturday he has moved to #12, whereas Poirier sits at #6. The Irish fighter has showed his intentions of a quick rise to the top of the Featherweight ladder, and continues to impose the fact he will be champion before 2014's end. A win against Poirier would immediately throw him into the number one contender picture. Poirier is riding a three fight win streak and is a logical opponent for McGregor. His quick and evasive style will pose the biggest challenge McGregor has had to face yet in the UFC, and will prove whether or not he can push for the championship. It is no secret that McGregor is always striving for his next test, and after his hand in the explosion of MMA in Dublin the UFC are most likely looking at their next big superstar.
