5 Footballers Who Didn't Live Up To The Hype

4. Michael Johnson

Once tipped for big things by both Sven Goran-Eriksson and Roberto Mancini, Michael Johnson was one of a number of players who came through the ranks at Manchester City and was expected to step up and become a national star. However, despite making a good start to life at Eastlands after debuting against Aston Villa in 2006, injuries struck - significantly an abdominal injury, which kept him out for almost a year. A loan move to Leicester City would follow, but Johnson failed to impress and he would be released in 2012 after only making four first team appearances over the course of five years. Johnson is still a free agent now and at the age of 25, he may now be looking at his career thinking about what could have been.
