5. Gordon Banks
Widely recognised as one of the all-time great goalkeepers, Gordon Banks thoroughly deserves a mention in this list. Peter Shilton runs him very close, but based on the World Cup success in '66 and THAT save against Brazil, I opted for Banks. He started his senior career with Chesterfield in 1958 but his best years came between 1959 and 1972, where he played for Leicester and then Stoke City. He won the League Cup once with both teams and also raked in a host of individual honours, including an OBE in 1970. The major highlight of his career, like the rest of the squad that played in that famous tournament, has to be the World Cup success, where England overcame West Germany in the final.
