If ever a word could be paired with someone's name to perfectly describe one player then it would be "anonymous" and "Yoan Gouffran" - because the midfielder manages to run around the pitch without actually contributing any of note, be it positive or negative, to the Magpies cause. Well actually, against Club Atlas that wasn't entirely true - because it was Gouffran's awful misjudged pass back to his own defenders that allowed the Mexican side to steal possession, capitalise on Mike Williamson's ineptitude, and double their lead with what proved to be the winner. Steve McClaren will surely jettison Gouffran from the first team once he beds in Georginio Wijnaldum and brings in further attacking reinforcements - and it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Frenchman depart Tyneside this summer, if someone will have him that is...
