3. Lubomir Satka
Slightly harsh, some may say, but the reality was that Satka didn't perform very well at Providence Park - even if he was arguably fed to the sharks by his head coach. As the only recognised centre-back to start the game, Satka should have been controlling the defence and marshalling Shane Ferguson alongside him, but it almost appeared to be the opposite way round at times. At 19 years old it was harsh to burden Satka with so much responsibility when he has yet to make a Premier League appearance for Newcastle, and the 6ft 2in Slovenian struggled under the pressure. McClaren must surely regret sending the defender out there with so little protection alongside him.
